Why is my bed creaking or squeaking?

Your bed creaking or squeaking can be due to several reasons depending on the type of product you have. For example, there may be creaking noises from the slatted base or bed frame, or a squeaking sound from the mattress. Of course, there are things you can do to get rid of the noises.

If you have a bed frame with a slatted base:
Start by trying to locate where the sound is coming from.
  • The sound comes from the spring mattress: The creaking or squeaking is due to two or more springs having hooked into each other, or that the springs have not had time to soften when the mattress is new. You can easily remedy this by kneeling on your spring base. Then walk around on your knees in the area where the sound is coming from and the springs will unhook each other.

  • The sound comes from the slatted base: The creaking or squeaking is due to the fact that your slatted base is made of wood and when it is placed on the metal rails in the bed frame, there may be a noise when the wood rubs against the metal. An easy way to counteract the creaking or squeaking is to place furniture pads where the slatted base meets the metal rails.

For today's bed range, an update has been made where filter strips are included to minimize the risk of noise. These are all included with the new beds and can also be ordered as a spare part. If you have not received these, you are welcome to contact us and we will help you.
  • The sound comes from the bed frame: The creaking or squeaking is due to the screws in your bed frame not being fully tightened. The screws are loosened as you use the bed frame, so it is important that you tighten the screws again a few weeks after installation and then once a year.

  • The sound comes from the legs of the bed: The creaking or squeaking may be due to the bed legs not being fully tightened or the bed legs rubbing against your floor. Tighten the bed legs if they are a little loose and place furniture pads under the bed legs so that the bed legs do not rub against your floor.

If you have an elastic base on bed legs:
Start by trying to locate where the sound is coming from.
  • The sound comes from the elastic bottom: The creaking or squeaking is due to two or more springs having hooked into each other, or that the springs have not had time to soften when the mattress is new. You can easily remedy this by kneeling on your spring base. Then walk around on your knees in the area where the sound is coming from and the springs will unhook each other.
