How do I know if my LED light is dimmable?

It is always stated on the LED light source whether it is dimmable or not. You can see this through a symbol or text on the packaging or in the product description. In order to use the LED light source with a permanently installed dimmer, you need to make sure that your dimmer is compatible with LED lights. The maximum and minimum power that the dimmer can handle is also stated on the product.

There are different types of dimmers depending on the type of light source you are going to use. LED lights are special because they do not draw as much power, i.e. watts, and the dimmer must therefore be made for LED to cope with the low wattage.
Keep in mind that:
  • If you use a light source together with the wrong type of dimmer, the light source will start flashing or sounding. There is no fault with the LED light, but the LED light is used with the wrong type of dimmer or fixture.
  • LED lights work best with trailing edge dimmers.
  • If you are unsure which dimmer you have at home or if it is compatible with LED lighting, you should consult a qualified electrician.
