Moderately Easy to AssembleRaymondI am an intermediate level IKEA assembler. I unboxed Alex's parts as soon as he arrived on my doorstep, because he was quite heavy in his box; but it took a few days to get around to assembling him. The directions were fairly clear, except for a few places where they covered Alex's three variants: Just Alex; Alex with casters; and Alex with an added desktop (I had opted for the casters). Because Alex is a chest of drawers there were many panels and a multitude of little parts. I recommend sorting the little parts out into small bowels or boxes and counting them carefully against the list. I had thought I was short one important barrel lock, but it turned up in a different box from the others. I am pleased with Alex and recommend him to anyone who uses their computer on a table lacking drawer space.
Lots of storageKarenDirections were not clear and I ended up building it upside down, so my dawers pointed down instead of up. Also I purchased it based on photos thinking it would fit under the desk, I had to remove the wheels for it to fit.

Awful quality not functionalJudyBesides taking forever to assemble, the drawer track slider system is garbage. You're given a tiny screw that doesn't stay put and the drawers come off the track constantly and do not open/close. Not worth the effort at all, it's going in the trash as soon as I purchase something else.

Poor quality, wood splitBrittnyI purchased the IKEA Alex unit after driving an hour each way to pick it up. At the store, the employee wouldn't even help me load it into my car, which was disappointing.
When I assembled it the same day, the wood split during assembly, even though I followed the instructions. I contacted customer service, and the only solution they offered was for me to drive another hour each way to return it. There was no alternative or accommodation for the defective product.
The quality was far below what I expected. You're better off spending a little more on a higher-quality piece of furniture that will last. Lesson learned—I won't be shopping at IKEA again. Truly a waste of time.
Improved!! AmandaI had gotten these in the past, about at least three others and there was always this issue with the drawer backs not aligning into the grooves on the sides. I always had to hammer that down to fit. They placed these notches on the bottom slide to allow the drawer back to fit much better now!! Its better than before!! Kudos Ikea!

Significant quality declineNikitaThe one I bought in 2016 still holds sturdy. The one I bought in 2025 is different in materials of drawers. They are flimsy. It can be bearable. The deal breaker are sliders. They are not smooth and took effort to close the drawer. Also edges of drawers became sharper which makes the unit less "friendly". It's not 1-star product, more about 3, I put 1 star to raise awarness of manufacturer.
Ikea also charge for delivery no matter what order amount which is uncommon practice in current market. Their charge is on a very high end.
Perfect under a deskFranceI bought two then i got a top. The drawer are deep enough for everything . My husband had to watch a utube video on how to mount it because they were some part that he did not where it belong. Typical of Ikea instructions
Plastic fasteners breakAshleyThey provided plastic fasteners instead of metal for a lot of the screws and they break extremely easily. If you're going to cheap out and give us crappy plastic at least put extras in so we have replacements when they inevitably break. What's odd is the drawers come with the metal fasteners so clearly you're aware of the need for better quality materials.
