A sofa, a single bed, a double bed and (in most cases) storage – all in one piece of furniture. And, with many of the day beds in the IKEA range, you have a choice of mattress to get the comfort that you prefer. A day bed takes up relatively little space, yet gives you room to stretch out during the day and, by night, a place for you or your guests to sleep well.

The versatile charm of day beds
A day bed is a clever fusion of style and functionality, offering a cosy spot to relax during the day and a comfortable guest bed by night. Whether you're furnishing a guest room, home office, or small flat, a day bed could be the versatile piece you've been looking for.
What is a day bed used for?
A day bed is a multifunctional piece of furniture that serves as both a seating area and a sleeping space. During the day, it functions as a sofa or lounging spot, perfect for reading, watching television, or simply relaxing. At night, it easily converts into a bed for guests or even for your own nightly slumber. This versatility makes day beds ideal for small spaces or rooms that need to serve multiple purposes.
Can you sleep on a day bed every night?
Absolutely! Day beds can be just as comfortable as regular beds for nightly sleep. Many day beds are designed to accommodate standard single-sized mattresses, ensuring proper support and comfort. When choosing a day bed for everyday use, consider factors like mattress quality, frame durability, and your personal sleep preferences. With the right setup, a day bed can provide a cosy and restful night's sleep.
How to style a day bed
Styling a day bed can enhance its functionality and aesthetic appeal. Here are some tips:
- Layer with cushions and throws: Add a variety of cushions and throws to create a cosy, inviting look. Mix and match textures and colours to suit your decor.
- Use a bedspread: A stylish bedspread can transform the day bed into a chic seating area. Choose a cover that complements your room's colour scheme.
- Add a side table: Place a small side table next to the day bed for added convenience. It's perfect for holding a lamp, books, or a cup of tea.
- Incorporate storage: Some day beds come with built-in storage drawers, ideal for keeping bedding, pillows, and other essentials neatly tucked away.
