Room darkening curtains

Room darkening curtains block most sunlight

Darkening curtains cut down on most sunlight and artificial light—like street lights and passing headlights—when fully closed. While people outside may be able to see a blurry impression or shadow of people or items just behind the curtains, their dense fabric provides ample privacy for use in any room.

IKEA curtains are available in a range of light filtering levels. Room darkening drapes allow a small degree of ambient light to create mood and atmosphere while cutting down on glare and harsh UV rays.

• Allow in the most light: Sheer curtains, often layered with additional window treatments, allow the most light inside your window and provide light privacy.

• Allow in some light: Light filtering curtains provide greater privacy and light blocking than sheers while still letting ample light in for most everyday activities.

• Block most light: Room darkening curtains offer adequate privacy for use in any room, blocking most exterior light entering a room without leaving you totally in the dark.

• Block almost all light: Blackout curtains provide the highest level of outdoor light blocking we offer, helping get your room as close to ‘pitch black’ as possible.

The perfect middle ground of light blocking for many, our room darkening curtains and drapes range is sure to have the perfect fit for every room in your home!
