General, task and mood – three kinds of lighting for your home

With the right lighting, it’s easier to work, relax, catch up and wind down at home. A simple way to get started? Think in three layers: general, task and mood lighting. Then let them work together to light your way throughout the day.

Task lighting

Task lighting is a must-have whenever you need to focus. Reading, chopping, working – this is the light that helps you see clearly and stay comfortable. Desk lamps, worktop lighting or a low pendant lamp all do the job, letting your eyes relax as you complete your task.

Mood lighting

Mood lighting adds atmosphere to a room. Softer, warmer and often placed at a few different spots around the room – like table lamps or wall lights. Add dimmers or decorative lamps, and you’ve got just the right glow for winding down or having people over.

General lighting

General lighting is your all-over, everyday light. Think ceiling lamps or spotlights that brighten the whole room. It can sit softly in the background or step up when you need it – like when you’re cleaning and want to chase down every last dust bunny.
